In an earlier
artist spotlight we featured Your Friend Esteves
and mentioned his upcoming album The Girl from Titan
. Well, it has been released!
The EP sports four tracks, one of them the already reviewed Silicon Highway
. However we have three more synthwave
goodness to sink our teeth into.
The title track, The Girl
is a soft synth (not softsynth!) ballad, featuring our friend Esteves himself on vocals! Some good singing is there. The mood is s bit on a sadder side but serves well to set up the story.
However, the next track In This World
we change the pace. It’s energetic, packed with synths and reverbs and choirs. It is also sends a more positive message.
We already know Silicon Highway
which fits into the next piece of the puzzle. The final track Escape Titan
does turn up things with a few notches. After all this is the final fight, running towards freedom part of the journey. This is also the longest track with its 5:28
duration.
It resembles the final stage before a boss fight in video games. Esteves throws all he has at us: huge synth solos, guitars, suspense, sweeping wind. Also giving a cool voiceover narration in the bridge to the final conclusion which is….. I’ll leave it for you to discover. Let’s just say it’s golden.
It’s a nice storytelling album, very well arranged and performed. Also check out the videos which is a cool bonus.
The album also has associated merch on Bandcamp which you also can check out below. The cover art is also fantastic, positioning the songs in the right environment.
All in all, can’t recommend it enough. It’s a good listen, definitely recommended!
