Artist Spotlight: Walmind - Purple Sun

blog-image

Today in artist spotlight we have a new synthwave project: Walmind and its first album: Purple Sun. This is not a recent release, it’s at least 6 months old and it’s not exactly short: it consists of 12 tracks!

It’s a soft, relaxed album, channeling the 80s via enthusiasm and careful selection of instruments. It’s more of a chillwave and ambient crossover style, perfect for relaxed moments or even studying, coding, etc…

We get smooth synths with a generous amount of reverb and nice, well balanced snares carefully dropped where needed. The first track Last Day at School also features a great video. I could really relate to this one. As a nerd I was rather interested in what I could create in my free time rather than partying and it represents that kind of “walking home” feeling really well.

Sorrow Face features a vocoder, yet despite of the track title it’s not a sad track. In fact none of the tracks are particularly overly happy or sad, maybe except Childhood Memories and Nostalgia Synth which do invoke positive emotions. We also get real vocals in The Tomorrow Comes, keeping the status quo of balanced emotions.

The whole package is carefully wrapped into - of course - purple and radiates 80s. It makes a really nice nostalgia statement and clearly based on personal inspirations and experiences interpreted in synthwave.

The album is available on Spotify and Youtube as well. Very much recommended!
