Artist spotlight: VHxRR - The Persistence of Memory

I’ve read about this collaboration from Von Hertzog himself on Twitter and since I like his previous works I started to listen this album with a great interest. VHxRR stands for Von Hertzog and Rob Rowe and it’s a remote collaboration between the two artists. You can read about their history on the Bandcamp link below.

What we get is a fantastic EP with 5 tracks. This is what usually called synthpop or (pardon the pun) vocal synthwave - and what a great set of vocals! It reminded me of Depeche Mode with a hint of Human Leauge. A deep, pleasant baritone with a rich tone and strong control. Seriously, it is very easy to listen to without worrying that the singer will slip off-key or getting vague on too low or too high tones.

The other half is the synths. These guys really know what they’re doing. The backing tracks complement the singer and fit in perfectly. Also the use of effects and well picked instruments do not step on the vocal or draw unecessary attention away. It really makes an impression, regardless of the mood of the song.

The songs are a a bit on the darker side but we find a variety of moods here. Personally I found The Sun, The Stars, The Shine (my favourite) and A Little Bit Sweeter happier than the others but the rest of the songs are not melancolic either. They’re balancing well on a bit sadder and a bit happier scale.

This is some seriously good stuff. I recommend listening to it and if you like them, consider supporting your fellow artists. You can find them on the Bandcamp link below.
