Artist Spotlight: Helsinki Project - Synthwave Singles

It’s been a while since the last post so it is time to fresh things up with Helsinki Project and his synthwave singles!

The first one is called Metatron. It is a self admittedly epic but chill track and it does live up to its name! Starting with some smooth and soft pads and solo served with some tasty reverb - just to sweep over a nice drum-backed track. After a short bridge the main verse introduces some bells for the added mood. Cleverly it we get another bridge with elements brought back one-by-one including the slow but well fitting arpeggio. The bridge builds up the whole melody again where we get more and more leads layered on top of eachother. It is nice, harmonic and indeed it is epic.

Cyberdrive is a fast paced track, starting with a luring arpeggio, which - after some smashing drums - pulls in an arpeggiated bassline with some nice accord hits and gliding background effects. More and more arpeggiated layers are coming to reach a quieter bridge with some clever filter curve then we get our arpeggiator back just before the drum sequence which leads to the second verse, the one with the lead. The lead itself is a nice legato synth then it morphs into another preset. We also get some interestingly placed “quiet” parts, it really adds to the mood.
The leadout is similarly clever, not just taking away the instruments one by one but narrowing them down with a filter.

Starting with The Equalizer we’re getting a more classical sounding synthwave track. Some nice reverbed tom-s and pads start the show then the reverbed drum kit and the smooth lead dominates the sound. The bridge continues the same lead but brings in some arpeggiated pluck sequences which connects us to the second verse. We get another lead with a much wider synth. In the final part we get all of the elements. The ending is more abrupt than the other tracks. The plucked arpeggio prepares the final part which ends with a bang. Ok, maybe not quite a bang.

The last track for today is called Neon Highway. This hits close to home for me. Starting with a short glide we’re jumping into the track with some reverbed chords and some cool drums. There is a well-placed and heavily reverbed tom for emphasis. The bells complement the lead well and the chords make a comeback in the bridge with the gliding synth again. The lead comes in around this part. It’s just a pure synth which followed by a smooth reverbed higher tone synth but what we also get is finely echoed and reverbed toms in the background. The track ends with the lead, finishing up the song.
Interestingly it is not a fast-paced one, but rather emphasizes the calm aspect of such a highway.

The songs are really nicely arranged and mostly on the chilling side. If you’re after some quality chilling tracks be sure to check out Helsinki Project on Bandcamp ,Spotify and SoundCloud . Highly recommended!
