Todays artist spotlight is about Cassetter and his new track: Formula 2080. I have to admit, he is one of my all time favourites when it comes to synthwave. I heard him first on a synthwave mix by the track of Chased By The Hammerhead Robot.
First it was one of the many tracks in the collection but I noticed the catchy lead, the variety and the clever usage of subtle effects. He also utilizes sidechaining very cleverly with relatively large delays, incorporating it into the track structure. We can expect a lot of different reverbs too, nice expressions with the filter and all in all, packed into a very pleasant production.
I am not a sound engineer but as far as I can tell, the mixing is very well done. For me it’s definitely a good example to learn from.
I didn’t have the luck of talking to him yet but whenever we exchanged a few lines on Twitter or Instagram he was always a nice, down-to-earth guy.
Formula 2080 does deliver. It’s quick paced, the sense of speed is great but it does not try to push you down. It makes a sound statement. Have a listen at the video link above, you will not regret it.
